U.S. and Philippines Agree on Temporary Accommodation of Some Afghan Refugees

Bayan News – U.S. media have reported that the U.S. government and the Philippines have reached an agreement on the temporary accommodation of some Afghan refugees.

Reuters reported on Tuesday, August 20, that under the agreement between the U.S. and the Philippines, Afghan refugees will be temporarily accommodated in the Philippines until they are issued visas by Washington.

However, Reuters did not provide further details on this agreement.

Washington had previously asked the Philippine government to cooperate in the humanitarian effort of temporarily housing Afghan refugees.

Nevertheless, many Afghan refugees in Pakistan and other countries are awaiting the issuance of visas by the U.S. government.

The delay in the issuance of U.S. visas has led to protests by Afghan refugees.

Many of the Afghan refugees who fled Afghanistan were local collaborators of the United States.
