Widespread Reactions to the Taliban’s New Law
Bayan News – The ratification of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Law by the Taliban leader has prompted extensive domestic and international reactions, and a week after the ratification of this law, strong reactions and criticisms of the Taliban continue.
The United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United Nations and other countries, including prominent figures in the world, have condemned the ratification of this law.
In the latest case, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States said that Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan has emboldened the Taliban to destroy decades of progress in women’s rights.
Michael McCaul added that the millions of women and girls suffering under Taliban oppression must not be forgotten.
The Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States stated that since the Biden-Harris administration abandoned the people of Afghanistan, “it has emboldened the Taliban to undo decades of progress in protecting the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.”
He called on the international community to remain firm in its position of not recognizing the Taliban.
On the other hand, Hanif Atmar, the former Foreign Minister of the Afghan government, described the ratification of this law as blatant oppression and historical regression.
Atmar wrote on the X platform that the international community is currently facing the worst form of gender apartheid in Afghanistan.
He said: “This law will have far-reaching and profound effects on the fundamental rights of women, men and children in the country, including deprivation, injustice, loss of liberty, pain, hardship and even risk to life.”
The Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Law has been published in the official gazette with a preamble, four chapters and 35 articles.
Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has called on Islamic scholars around the world to be available to answer any questions about this law.
