United Nations: Seven out of ten Afghan women suffer from mental health issues
Bayan News – The Women’s Division of the United Nations states that the mental health status of women in Afghanistan is extremely concerning.
This organization reported on Monday (September 2) that seven out of ten Afghan women are suffering from mental health problems.
According to the UN Women’s Division, since April of this year, seven out of ten Afghan women have experienced severe anxiety and depression.
The report cites surveys indicating that 73% to 91% of female respondents have stated that their mental health has worsened or significantly deteriorated.
However, some women in another survey conducted in April 2024 reported that they feel “not at all” safe when leaving their homes alone.
In contrast, among similar questions posed to men, 31% said they feel safe, while 63% responded that they feel “somewhat” safe.
The United Nations has emphasized how the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan have been exacerbated by gender inequalities, and this situation is worsening.
This report comes as a United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan is set to take place.
The United Nations Assistance Office has also stated, alongside the report, that the international community should refrain from recognizing the Taliban.
