Situation in Afghanistan; Blinken Summoned by the House Foreign Affairs Committee

Bayan News – The House Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States has summoned Antony Blinken, the country’s Secretary of State, to testify regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

In a letter from the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee sent to the U.S. Department of State, Blinken is requested to appear on September 19 of this month to respond to questions about the chaotic exit of the United States from Afghanistan.

McCall emphasized in this letter that Blinken is one of the individuals who played a significant role in the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, and it is also stated that if Blinken does not appear to respond, new accusations will be brought against him.

Meanwhile, Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of State, has said that Mr. Blinken may not be able to appear on the specified date for testimony.

Miller also called Blinken’s summons to the House of Representatives unnecessary, adding that he has already testified more than 14 times about the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

This comes as the House Foreign Affairs Committee has repeatedly criticized the manner of Washington’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, holding President Joe Biden responsible for this chaotic exit.
