Indonesia’s Representative at the UN: The Taliban Have No Islamic Justification for Banning Girls’ Education
Bayan News – The representative of Indonesia at the United Nations Human Rights Council criticized the ongoing ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan under Taliban rule and emphasized that this ban has no justification.
The UN Human Rights Council meeting was held on Monday evening (September 9) in Geneva.
The Indonesian representative at the UN added that his country is deeply concerned about the deterioration of human rights in Afghanistan, including the restrictions imposed on women and girls in terms of employment and freedom of action.
This Indonesian official urged the Taliban to adhere to Afghanistan’s international commitments.
He stated, “Ultimately, Indonesia emphasizes the lack of religious justification for the educational ban and other regressive laws, and we hope that cooperation among scholars from both countries and discussions on methods of Islamic education will yield results.”
The representative of Indonesia also noted that his country has actively provided scholarships and opportunities for Afghan women, and emphasized that efforts must be made to ensure that business opportunities facilitate the empowerment of Afghanistan’s economy.
