Efforts for a Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza; U.S. Secretary of State Travels to Egypt

Bayan News – American media reports that Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, traveled to Egypt on Tuesday (September 17).

The U.S. Department of State has stated that Blinken is in Egypt with the aim of achieving a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of hostages.

According to the department’s announcement, Blinken will meet with Egyptian officials to discuss ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza that guarantees the release of all hostages, alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people, and helps create greater regional security.

However, according to published reports, Washington has been seeking an agreement between Israel and Hamas for months, mediated by Qatar and Egypt, to stop the war and free Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

CNN has reported that Egypt is a key player in the ongoing efforts to reach an agreement, but it is unlikely that Blinken’s visit will result in significant progress toward an agreement that depends on the political will of two men: Netanyahu and Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas.

According to CNN, there are doubts regarding the willingness of Netanyahu and Sinwar to reach an agreement.
