Widespread Criticism of the Promotion of Virtue Law; Taliban Foreign Minister Responds

Bayan News – Amid widespread reactions to the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue Law, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, responded on Thursday (September 19), stating that this law has not been problematic.

While speaking at a program presenting the ministry’s annual report, the Foreign Minister expressed: “We can see that in Kabul and other provinces of Afghanistan, people and women have not faced any serious issues.”

This high-ranking Taliban official emphasized that the relevant ministry has clarified the Promotion of Virtue Law regarding concerns and that there is no cause for worry.

According to him, linking any issue to the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Law is “not appropriate.”

Sale of Embassy Assets

The Taliban Foreign Minister also added in this press conference that some ambassadors from the former Afghan government have sold assets from several embassies of the country.

In response to a question, he said: “We have heard that in some embassies, vehicles and even carpets have been sold.”

Muttaqi did not specify in which countries the assets of Afghan embassies were sold by ambassadors and diplomats of the previous government.

The Taliban Foreign Minister stated that the current government of Afghanistan has managed to “secure” the assets of the majority of embassies, with only a “very few remaining” that are also being protected.

Since regaining control over Afghanistan, the Taliban have sought to bring the country’s embassies and consulates under their control.

Recently, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry accused diplomats from the previous government in Afghan embassies and consulates in several European countries of “corruption” and “lack of cooperation” with this ministry, announcing that it does not recognize documents issued by these representations.
