Russian Foreign Minister: NATO Has Moved Its Military Exercises Toward the Arctic

Bayan News – Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, recently stated that NATO has shifted its military exercises toward the Arctic; however, the Arctic is not NATO’s territory.

In a televised interview for a documentary about the Soviet Union, Lavrov added: “We are witnessing an escalation of NATO exercises in the Arctic. Our country is fully prepared to defend its interests both militarily and politically.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, September 20, the state-run Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing a Pentagon report, wrote that the U.S. Department of Defense plans to conduct military exercises in the Arctic with its allies to demonstrate its combat capabilities.

About two weeks ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the country’s navy had begun strategic exercises in the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean, Baltic, and Caspian Seas.
