Turkish Police Lied About Issuing Residence Cards and Arrested 500 Afghan Migrants
Bayan News – Afghan migrants in Turkey report that the country’s police have arrested over 500 Afghan migrants in front of the Civil Registry office in Istanbul.
Afghan migrants, in a video sent to Afghan media, stated that they were arrested after being promised residence cards for undocumented migrants.
According to the migrants, Istanbul police had promised residence cards to undocumented Afghan migrants.
One of the migrants said, “The Turkish police gathered the undocumented migrants, handcuffed them, and sent them to camps.”
Turkish police arrested these individuals on Wednesday, September 18, at the Civil Registry office in Istanbul and transferred them to migrant camps.
In recent months, the Turkish government has intensified the detention and deportation of undocumented Afghan refugees.
