Chinese Foreign Ministry: Women’s Rights Are Not the Only Issue in Afghanistan
Bayan News – Lin Jian, the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that women’s rights are not the only issue in Afghanistan, and that there are more important matters that countries should focus on.
In a press conference on Monday (September 23), this Chinese foreign ministry official said that, above all, the issue of food shortages and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan is crucial.
However, he called on the Taliban to address international concerns regarding Afghan women and girls.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson urged world nations to encourage the Taliban, with a spirit of equality and respect, to improve the situation of women and children in Afghanistan. He also expressed hope that the Taliban would honor their commitments regarding women’s rights.
Lin Jian said, “The rights and interests of women are not the whole issue in Afghanistan, nor are they the main cause or core of the country’s problems.”
He added, “The international community should focus on Afghanistan’s most pressing issues, begin the work of reconstruction and development in the country, improve the well-being of the Afghan people, and genuinely protect the human rights of its population.”
China is one of the countries closest to the Taliban, having established political and economic relations over the past three years.
