Guterres Supports Countries’ Decision to Immediately Lift Restrictions on Afghan Women
Bayan News – António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has expressed support for the decision by some countries to lift restrictions on Afghan women and girls.
On Sunday morning (September 29), the UN Secretary-General wrote on platform X: “What is happening in Afghanistan can be compared to some of the most egregious repressive regimes in modern history.”
Guterres also supported the decision of about 20 countries and international organizations to immediately lift the Taliban’s restrictions on Afghan women and girls.
The UN official once again urged the Taliban to lift these restrictions as soon as possible.
Last week, four countries, including Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands, announced that they would file a complaint against the Taliban at the Hague Court over “gender discrimination” in Afghanistan.
Following this, at least 20 other countries have also supported the decision.
In response, the Taliban rejected the accusations of “gender discrimination” and called them “baseless.”
