Bayan News – Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, stated on Saturday (October 5) in a press conference that at least 80 police officers have been injured in clashes with protesters supporting former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The Interior Minister told reporters that the caravan of protesters, led by the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, opened fire on the police and used tear gas against them.
This security official expressed that Imran Khan’s supporters protested armed, but to prevent escalation, police forces were ordered to refrain from carrying weapons.
On the other hand, Mr. Naqvi mentioned that the protesters intended to gather in the red zone of Islamabad, where the parliament and foreign embassies are located.
According to Naqvi, there is information indicating that the protesters are attempting to disrupt the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting to attract public attention.
He added, “We will not allow such actions. I warn them again not to cross the red lines and not to force us to take harsher measures.”
Previously, Naqvi had urged supporters of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party to avoid any gatherings until the end of the diplomatic sessions.
