Muttaqi Meets with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and UNAMA’s New Political Deputy

Bayan News – On Sunday, October 13, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, met with Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, and Georgette Gagnon, the new political deputy of UNAMA, in Kabul.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying that the UN Special Representative first introduced Georgette Gagnon to Amir Khan Muttaqi, providing information about her work experience in various countries, including Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Muttaqi expressed hope that Gagnon’s appointment as political deputy would improve relations between the Taliban and the UN, and assured the ministry’s cooperation in this regard.

The Taliban Ministry also noted that discussions were held regarding UNAMA’s activities and UN meetings related to Afghanistan.

This was Georgette Gagnon’s first meeting as the new political deputy of UNAMA with Taliban officials, following her appointment by the UN Secretary-General and her arrival in Afghanistan earlier this month, on October 6.
