Assassination of Yahya Sinwar; Biden: The end of the war in Gaza has arrived

Bayan News – U.S. President Joe Biden, in response to the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, stated that the time has come to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages.

Reuters reported that on Thursday night (October 17), upon his arrival in Germany, Biden told reporters that he had called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and congratulated him and the Israeli military on Sinwar’s death.

The U.S. president told reporters that now is the time to move toward a ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure that conditions improve for the entire world.

Biden added: “Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all those goals. That obstacle is now gone. But there is still a lot of work ahead of us.”

Similarly, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also described Yahya Sinwar as an obstacle to a ceasefire in Gaza and said the U.S. would continue its efforts to establish a ceasefire.

Several other Western officials have also called for an end to the war in Gaza in response to Yahya Sinwar’s death.

The Israeli military confirmed yesterday that Yahya Sinwar was killed on Wednesday in Gaza. Hamas has yet to respond.

Yahya Sinwar had been appointed as the successor to Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas’ political bureau, after Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran.
