Tehran-Berlin Tensions: Germany Closes All Iranian Consulates
Bayan News – The German Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday (October 31) that, in response to the execution of a German-Iranian citizen, it will be closing all three Iranian consulates in Germany.
According to German media, the Foreign Ministry stated, however, that Germany’s embassy in Tehran will remain open.
Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s Foreign Minister, stated, “Our diplomatic relations are currently at an extremely low level.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran has yet to respond to this decision by the German government.
Previously, in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, the German government recalled its ambassador from Iran and summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Berlin.
Three days ago, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced that this German-Iranian citizen, who had been imprisoned in Iran, was executed on charges of “corruption on earth through planning and leading terrorist actions.”
