Iran’s Interior Minister: With International Aid Reduced to Zero, Migrant Acceptance Is No Longer Feasible
Bayan News – Esgandar Momeni, Iran’s Interior Minister, recently stated that international aid for hosting migrants is nearly exhausted, and Iran can no longer accept them.
He made this statement on Tuesday (November 12) at a ceremony introducing the new governor of Kerman, adding that while the Islamic Republic is not anti-migrant, international support for hosting migrants is now almost zero.
According to Iranian media, the Interior Minister stated, “The province of Kerman suffers from this situation, and we are not anti-migrant; we have coexisted with our neighbors for centuries.
However, international aid in this area is practically non-existent, and we have no choice but to restrict further guest acceptance.”
The Minister also noted that closing borders is necessary to prevent repeated flows of migrants.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Hosseinpour, a member of Iran’s parliament, stated at the same event that the presence of migrants in this province has reached a crisis level. He added, “At one school I visited, nearly 100% of the students were foreign nationals.
The public is demanding urgent decisions to address and manage the migrant situation.”
This comes as the Islamic Republic has intensified its forced deportations of Afghan families in recent days. According to reports, Iran is deporting around three thousand Afghan migrants daily through the Islam Qala and Nimroz border crossings.
