Islamic leaders call for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza
Bayan News – Islamic leaders gathered for an emergency meeting held on Monday (November 11) in Saudi Arabia to discuss the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
According to Arab media reports, the leaders at the meeting demanded an immediate end to Israel’s military operations against Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Reports indicate that the Riyadh meeting is likely to be influenced by the recent re-election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, who is expected to take a firm stance in support of Israel and may adopt a tougher approach against Iran.
In the opening speech, Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.
Regarding Iran, the Saudi Crown Prince said, “We call on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security by immediately halting Israel’s attacks on our brothers in Palestine and Lebanon, and to oblige Israel to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran and refrain from attacking its territory.”
Najib Mikati, Lebanon’s interim prime minister, also urged the international community to support the government of Lebanon, rather than specific groups or factions within the country. He also indirectly criticized Iran, urging countries to stop interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
Mr. Mikati stated, “Countries should not interfere in our internal affairs by supporting one group or another, but should instead support Lebanon as a whole.”
Arab and Islamic leaders attending the meeting included Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority; Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar; Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey; Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan; Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria; and Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq.
Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria, joined other Arab and Muslim leaders at this emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, leaders from Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, including Iran and Pakistan, attended the meeting, though no invitation was extended to the Taliban government.
