Taliban Interim Government Forces Detain Canadian Veteran at Kabul Airport
Bayan News – Canadian media outlets have reported that David Lowry, a Canadian veteran, was detained last week by forces of the Taliban’s interim government at Kabul Airport.
According to CTV News, the veteran was arrested last Saturday after arriving in Afghanistan on a flight to Kabul.
The published report states that during the evacuation operation in August 2021, Lowry helped evacuate more than 100 Afghans from Kabul.
The Canadian media also reported that Lowry had traveled to Afghanistan multiple times, providing consultancy services through his private security company in Kabul.
Meanwhile, a source in Kabul told CTV that the Taliban interim government forces had been aware of the presence and activities of this Canadian veteran for several years.
Furthermore, Global Affairs Canada, the department managing the country’s diplomatic and consular relations, confirmed to CTV News that they are aware of Lowry’s detention by the Taliban and that Canadian officials are addressing the issue through diplomatic channels.
Taliban officials have not commented on the report.
It is said that Lowry, known in Afghanistan as “Canadian Dave,” was the only Canadian who remained at Kabul International Airport during the fall of Afghanistan in August 2021.
