Turkish Police Detain 40 Afghan Refugees, Including 19 Children
Bayan News – The Turkish Coast Guard has reported that during two separate operations in the city of Çanakkale, 40 Afghan refugees, including 19 children, were detained.
According to Turkish media, the detained refugees have been transferred to detention centers, and their deportation process is underway.
On Tuesday, November 19, Turkish police stated that in another operation in the same city, five Afghan refugees without legal documentation were also detained.
Reports indicate that during these operations, two individuals were arrested on charges of human trafficking. Turkish authorities have stated that investigations into these cases are ongoing.
The Turkish police have emphasized that joint operations to identify, detain, and deport illegal migrants are continuing across the country.
According to recent findings by reputable outlets such as Politico and Der Spiegel, reports of mistreatment and abuse of Afghan and Syrian refugees in Turkish deportation centers have surfaced.
However, the Turkish government has denied these allegations, asserting that all actions are conducted in accordance with the law.
