Sources from the Taliban Government: 150 Foreign Nationals Imprisoned in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Sources from the interim Taliban government have confirmed to media outlets related to Afghanistan that 150 foreign nationals, including 10 Iranians, are currently detained in prisons across the country.

A source from the Taliban’s Directorate of Prison Administration stated on Thursday (November 21) that a total of 12,000 individuals are incarcerated in prisons under Taliban control.

The source also provided figures indicating that approximately 8,000 Afghans are being held in detention centers in Iran.

However, the source did not provide details regarding the identities or reasons for the detention of foreign nationals in Afghanistan.

These remarks come amid ongoing negotiations between the Taliban government and the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding prisoner exchanges. For this purpose, a delegation from Iran’s Ministry of Justice recently visited Kabul.

Additionally, reports indicate that three American citizens are also imprisoned by the Taliban. Despite efforts by the United States, these individuals remain in Taliban custody.
