Iran Appoints New Ambassador to Afghanistan

Bayan News – Iranian media reports indicate that the Islamic Republic of Iran has appointed Alireza Bigdeli as its new ambassador to Kabul.

Prior to him, Kazemi Qomi served as ambassador and special representative of the President of Iran for Afghanistan.

Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday (November 24) that, based on a decree by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alireza Bigdeli has been appointed as the new head of the Iranian mission in Kabul.

According to the report, the special presidential representation in Afghanistan will also be dissolved, and, as before, the special representative for Afghanistan will operate directly under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tasnim added that Bigdeli has previously served as chargé d’affaires and ambassador for Iran in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and Turkey.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi had been appointed as Iran’s ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan in the month of Qos (December) 2022.
