Russian Special Envoy Meets with Acting Taliban Foreign Minister During Kabul Visit

Bayan News – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban’s caretaker government announced a meeting between Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister, and Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, in Kabul.

Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesperson for the ministry, wrote on the X platform on Sunday evening (November 24) that the discussion focused on bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Russia, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, trade, and transit.

The Taliban’s foreign minister emphasized Russia’s significant role in major developments and stressed the need for expanded relations between Afghanistan and Russia in the fields of economic cooperation and trade.

Muttaqi highlighted the importance of high-level exchanges between the two countries, noting that over the past year, numerous Taliban officials have been invited to attend meetings in Russia.

Meanwhile, Zamir Kabulov expressed Moscow’s desire to enhance its relations with Afghanistan in the economic and commercial sectors.

The Russian diplomat also announced that a high-level Russian delegation plans to visit Kabul soon to discuss expanding cooperation in various sectors.

It is noteworthy that, although Russia has not yet officially recognized the Taliban’s caretaker government, it has strengthened and expanded its political and economic ties with them. Recently, Moscow has been working to remove the Taliban’s caretaker government from the list of terrorist groups.
