Israeli Cabinet to Meet Over Ceasefire Agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon
Bayan News – International media reports have stated that the Israeli Cabinet will meet on Tuesday (November 26) to discuss the terms of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The final terms of the agreement between the two sides have not yet been announced, but reports indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his “general agreement” with the conditions of the ceasefire.
It is reported that the 60-day ceasefire would involve the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and the end of Hezbollah’s presence in the region.
The U.S. government has said it is doing everything possible to ensure the success of the ceasefire draft aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated that significant progress has been made toward achieving a ceasefire in Lebanon, but he also cautioned that final approval from both parties is still needed.
Meanwhile, Reuters, quoting four senior Lebanese sources, reported that U.S. and French presidents are expected to announce the ceasefire.
The Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament has also stated that there are no serious obstacles to implementing the U.S.-proposed ceasefire plan in Lebanon, although some other Lebanese officials have expressed less optimism.
It is worth noting that, according to the U.S. proposal, Hezbollah would withdraw its forces to behind the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border.
