Protests in Pakistan Disrupt Import and Export Flow with Afghanistan

Bayan News – Pakistani media have reported that widespread protests by supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have disrupted the import and export of goods with Afghanistan.

On Wednesday, November 27, Dawn newspaper quoted sources saying that due to road blockages, trucks carrying fresh fruits, coal, and imported soap from Afghanistan have been stranded in various areas of Peshawar.

The report stated that in the past four days, no cargo vehicles have arrived from Punjab to Peshawar or Torkham.

According to Mujibullah Shinwari, the head of the Torkham Customs Representatives Association, “The imported coal and soap were being transported to cement factories and other industries in various cities of Punjab, while Afghan grapes and apples were being sent to the fruit markets in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.”

Shinwari added that before the road blockages, an average of 300 cargo vehicles were being exported to Afghanistan daily, and 250 cargo vehicles were entering Pakistan from Afghanistan.

However, reports indicate that the daily number of vehicles crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan has now dropped to 150.
