The Interim Government Requests $20 Billion to Combat Climate Change

Bayan News – The Environmental Protection Agency of the interim government states that Afghanistan will need $20.6 billion to combat climate change by 2030.

Rohullah Amin, the head of the agency, said on Sunday (December 1) during a press conference in Kabul that the participation of the government delegation in the COP29 summit was beneficial. He added that Afghanistan’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document has been revised to facilitate access to global climate change assistance and will be submitted to the UNFCCC Secretariat in February next year.

The head of the climate change section of the Environmental Protection Agency noted that such assistance is provided to countries based on their Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document.

He said, “The estimated financial resources we need amount to $20.6 billion by 2030.”

According to the agreement reached at the COP29 summit in Baku, wealthy nations are expected to provide $300 billion annually to poorer countries by 2035.
