Taliban Announces Start of TAPI Project in Afghanistan
Bayan News – Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the caretaker government, announced on Monday (December 2) the commencement of the practical work on the TAPI project within Afghanistan’s borders.
Mujahid said in a video posted on the social media platform X on Monday (December 2): “The TAPI project is now practically underway in Afghan soil.”
The TAPI project was inaugurated for the second time in September of this year without the presence of officials from India and Pakistan, but with the attendance of Mullah Hassan Akhund, the prime minister of the government, and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the national leader of Turkmenistan.
The TAPI pipeline is a major regional project that aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.
The project was initially launched ten years ago in the city of Mary, Turkmenistan, by the leaders of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan.
It should be noted that the practical work on this project was previously delayed due to security concerns in Afghanistan.
The TAPI project is one of the largest regional projects, stretching 1,821 kilometers in length, with an annual capacity to transport 33 billion cubic meters of gas.
