Three Afghan Women Featured in BBC’s 100 Inspirational Women List

Bayan News – Elaha Soroor, a singer; Zakia Khudadadi, an athlete; and Hamida Aman, a media and education entrepreneur from Afghanistan, have been included in the BBC’s 100 Women list of inspiring and influential figures.

The BBC released its annual list of the 100 most inspirational and influential women worldwide for 2024 on Tuesday, December 3.

According to the BBC, Zakia Khudadadi made history this year by winning a medal at the Paris Paralympics as the first member of the Paralympic Refugee Team.

The global media outlet added that Khudadadi was born with a disability and began secretly training in taekwondo at the age of 11 in a sports club in her hometown, Herat, in western Afghanistan.

The BBC report also highlighted Hamida Aman’s efforts. Following the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education, she founded the Begum Academy, which provides free multimedia courses for girls unable to attend school.

The BBC noted that over the past year, this educational platform has produced more than 8,500 videos in Dari and Pashto, covering school curricula for grades 7 through 12.

Additionally, in March of this year, Aman launched Begum TV Network, which broadcasts Begum Academy courses via satellite.

It is worth mentioning that the BBC releases an annual list of influential women at the end of each year. Last year, several Afghan women were also included in this list.
