The European Union Calls the Ban on Girls’ Education in Medical Institutions a “Horrific Violation” of Human Rights

Bayan News – Following the caretaker government’s ban on women and girls in Afghanistan attending medical institutions, the European Union has condemned the move as horrific and a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening (December 4), the EU urged the caretaker government to refrain from such discriminatory policies and to adhere to its international obligations.

The EU described the ban as unjustifiable and warned of its consequences, stating that it will deepen the humanitarian crisis and exacerbate the suffering of the Afghan people.

The statement noted that the caretaker government has ordered all private and public educational institutions in Afghanistan to suspend medical education for women and girls.

“We call on the Taliban to revoke this discriminatory policy and adhere to their commitments under international law, including ensuring equal access to education and basic healthcare for all Afghans,” the EU said.

The EU reiterated its commitment to supporting women, girls, and all those whose rights are continuously violated in Afghanistan.

According to the EU, the participation of women and girls in education and the workforce is not just a matter of equality but is also essential for the self-reliance and development of any nation.

The caretaker government’s ban on women and girls attending medical institutions has sparked widespread condemnation.

Many prominent Afghan political figures and international organizations have opposed the decision and called for its immediate reversal.

Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, also issued a statement today urging the Taliban to immediately reverse their decision to ban girls’ education in medical institutions.
