Organization of Islamic Cooperation: Decisions Regarding Women Must Be Based on Women’s Rights in Islam
Bayan News – Following the ban on girls’ education in medical institutions in Afghanistan, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on the interim government to reconsider its recent decision.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 5, the OIC emphasized that decisions made by the interim government regarding women should align with women’s rights as enshrined in Islam.
The statement added: “The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemns this new restrictive decree that prevents women from pursuing education in medical fields.”
The OIC described the restrictive measure by the interim government as disappointing and stressed that its decisions must adhere to the resolutions of the organization.
Additionally, the OIC noted that banning girls from health institutes would have detrimental consequences for Afghanistan’s healthcare system.
The organization has urged the interim government to review its recent decree.
