Prominent Leaders of the Opposition to the Interim Government Form a New Coalition

Bayan News – On Friday, December 6, prominent leaders opposing the interim government announced the formation of a new coalition called the “National Assembly for the Salvation of Afghanistan.”

Notable members of this coalition include General Abdul Rashid Dostum, Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, Karim Khalili, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, Ahmad Massoud, Omar Daudzai, Salahuddin Rabbani, and Atta Mohammad Noor.

The coalition was officially announced during an online meeting.

Members of the coalition called on the United Nations to end its ineffective engagement with the interim government. They also urged the international community and the Afghan people to cooperate with the coalition in resolving the ongoing crisis.

Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, a senior member of the coalition, urged the interim government to halt violence against the Afghan people and to respect the rights of ethnic groups, political parties, and women.

Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the People’s Unity Party of Afghanistan, stated in his speech that the members of this assembly are individuals whose opinions and rights were ignored during the Doha negotiations.

Atta Mohammad Noor, another member of the coalition, emphasized the importance of unifying political parties and movements, stating, “Currently, bringing all factions together under one umbrella is the only way to save Afghanistan from the current crisis.”

Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of the National Movement Party of Afghanistan, called on the public to support this coalition. Highlighting the dire situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, he urged leaders, intellectuals, scholars, and citizens to work together to save the country.

It has been reported that the assembly has brought together at least 30 organizations and political movements under a single banner.

This marks the first time since the interim government’s rise to power that its political opponents have united under one coalition to adopt a unified stance.
