Qatar and the United States to Provide $50 Million for Education in Afghanistan
Bayan News – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Qatar Foundation for Education signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday, December 8, to support the education of boys and girls in Afghanistan.
According to published reports, the two entities have jointly allocated $50 million, equally divided, to enroll over 100,000 children who have been out of school and to provide nearly 2,000 scholarships for young people.
The Qatar Foundation and USAID also emphasized their commitment to supporting education in Afghanistan.
Mohammed Al-Kubaisi, the interim CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Education, stated during the signing of the agreement:
“Collaboration with USAID is a significant step toward achieving inclusive and equitable education. This joint effort can remove barriers, empower communities, and contribute to a brighter future.”
Similarly, Joel Sandefur, a USAID director for Afghanistan, added:
“This partnership ensures that Afghan women and girls have access to quality education and helps pave the way for a more prosperous future for Afghans.”
Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to education as a fundamental right for all, particularly for marginalized and at-risk communities.
