The Russian parliament has voted in favor of removing the Taliban from the list of terrorist groups
Bayan News – On Tuesday, December 10, the Russian parliament approved the removal of the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations.
According to published reports, the parliament held a vote on Tuesday regarding the procedure for removing the Taliban from the list of terrorist groups.
This marks the first official step by the Russian government to delist the Taliban from the terrorist group designation, although the next steps in the process have yet to be determined.
It is reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will sign the final decision to remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist groups.
Over the past three years, the interim government in Kabul and Russia have established close political and economic ties; however, Moscow has not yet officially recognized the current government in Kabul.
The process of removing the Taliban from the list of terrorist groups was initiated several months ago by the Russian government.
With this move, Russia becomes the second regional country to delist the interim government from the terrorist group designation. Previously, Kazakhstan had also removed the Taliban from its list of prohibited organizations.
