Attempted Suicide by Former South Korean Defense Minister in Police Detention
Bayan News – International media have reported that Kim Yong-hyun, the former Defense Minister of South Korea, attempted suicide while in police detention.
The former South Korean military official was accused and detained for implementing martial law through illegal means.
Last week, he resigned following the president’s failed attempt to enforce martial law, and he was subsequently arrested.
In a statement, the former Defense Minister wrote: “First of all, I deeply regret and take full responsibility for the confusion and concern caused to the public regarding martial law. I have submitted my resignation to the president.”
According to published reports, Mr. Kim is currently facing charges, including handling sensitive duties during an uprising and abusing power to obstruct the enforcement of rights.
However, the imposition of martial law in South Korea led to an unprecedented political crisis in the country.
