U.S. State Department Report: Al-Qaeda Members Are Being Hosted in Afghanistan
Bayan News – The U.S. Department of State has stated that members of Al-Qaeda are still being hosted in Afghanistan. The interim government has consistently denied such reports in the past.
The U.S. Department of State’s annual report, released on Thursday (December 12), covers terrorist threats in 2023.
According to the report, officials of the interim government claim that these individuals are not actively participating in terrorism.
The report states that Al-Qaeda, ISIS-Khorasan, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and other terrorist groups were present in Afghanistan in 2023.
The report further mentions that in April, Tajikistan’s security forces discovered and neutralized a terrorist cell originating from Afghanistan that had entered Tajikistan with the intention of carrying out attacks.
The U.S. State Department’s report also notes that ISIS-Khorasan continued its attacks against civilians and ethnic and religious minorities within Afghanistan.
Officials from the interim government have not yet responded to the report, but over the past three years, they have consistently denied the presence of any terrorist groups or individuals in the country and emphasized their commitment to the Doha Agreement.
This report comes at a time when the ISIS-Khorasan branch of ISIS recently targeted the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates of the interim government.
