Turkish Police Detain Nearly One Thousand Undocumented Migrants
Bayan News – The Turkish Ministry of Interior announced that in an operation carried out by the country’s police forces, 981 undocumented migrants were detained in various cities across Turkey.
Ali Yerlikaya, Turkey’s Minister of Interior, stated yesterday (December 13) that these migrants were apprehended on Thursday.
The Minister wrote on the platform X that during the police operation, 31 individuals, including 9 foreign nationals, were arrested on charges of human trafficking.
According to Yerlikaya, in the joint operation conducted by Turkish forces, 366,838 individuals were questioned, and more than 28,000 security personnel inspected 15,250 locations.
Yerlikaya noted that the detained migrants were transferred to migration detention centers, and deportation procedures have been initiated.
Although the Minister did not specify the identities of the migrants, Turkey has previously detained and deported hundreds of Afghan and Syrian migrants.
According to published reports, Turkish security forces have launched a nationwide operation called “Kalkan” to identify and apprehend undocumented migrants. The thirty-fifth phase of this operation was conducted on Thursday in various cities across the country.
