Request for $718 Million in Aid for Afghanistan
Bayan News – The World Food Programme (WFP) has stated that it needs $718 million to provide aid to those in need in Afghanistan over the next six months.
On Tuesday (December 17), the organization reiterated on the platform X that currently, 15 million people in Afghanistan are facing food shortages.
The WFP further noted that it has begun its aid distribution process for over six million people from November 2024 to April 2025, with most of the beneficiaries identified in remote areas of Afghanistan.
According to the organization, food supplies have been prepared for 62,000 people in the provinces of Badakhshan, Bamiyan, Ghor, and Daikundi.
However, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) had requested $3.06 billion this year to assist the people of Afghanistan; it is reported that only 37.5 percent of this budget has been funded.
According to OCHA, over 23 million people in Afghanistan are in need of assistance.
