Washington: Pakistan’s Missile Program a Threat to the United States

Bayan News – John Finer, the U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor, recently described Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missile program as a threat to the United States.

Speaking on Thursday (December 19) during an interview with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, he stated that Islamabad is developing long-range ballistic missiles that could eventually enable the country to strike targets beyond South Asia.

The U.S. official said: “Therefore, it is difficult for us to see Pakistan’s actions as anything other than an emerging threat to the United States.”

However, the United States also announced two days ago that it has imposed new sanctions on Pakistan’s missile program development, including, for the first time, sanctions targeting Pakistan’s defense agency.

Two senior U.S. officials, speaking anonymously to Reuters, stated that U.S. concerns about Pakistan’s missile program are longstanding and stem from the size of the missile engines currently under development.

One senior U.S. official said that the threat posed to the United States by Pakistan’s ballistic missile development is expected to materialize within the next decade.
