Karzai: Afghanistan Will Never Have a Bright Future Without Education for Women and Girls

Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has voiced his support for the demands of girls advocating for the reopening of schools and universities.

On Saturday (21st), Karzai stated in a Facebook post that the education of women and girls is a fundamental right, and without their education, Afghanistan can never achieve a bright future.

The former president added, “The demands and voices of our country’s girls for knowledge and education are legitimate and represent a cry for a prosperous and flourishing Afghanistan. Empowering the younger generation (both girls and boys) is the only way to achieve self-sufficiency, independence, progress, and prosperity.”

He emphasized that education is essential for the growth and development of Afghanistan, expressing hope that the doors of schools and universities will reopen for the girls of the country as soon as possible.

In addition to Karzai, several U.S. officials, including the Secretary of State, have called on the Taliban to immediately revoke their bans on girls’ education and women’s work.

However, the Taliban, through multiple decrees over the past three years, have prohibited girls from attending schools and universities, while also imposing severe restrictions on women working in national and international organizations.
