U.S. Secretary of State Calls for Immediate Lifting of Ban on Girls’ Education and Women’s Employment in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, has urged the interim government to immediately lift the ban on girls’ education and women’s employment in Afghanistan.

On Friday night, December 20, Blinken wrote on the platform X that the interim government has, for the past two years, prohibited girls from pursuing education and barred women from working in non-governmental organizations.

The U.S. Secretary of State stated: “Afghan women and girls are key to achieving a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan. We call on the Taliban to revoke these decrees immediately.”

Two days earlier, referring to developments in Syria, Blinken said that the new rulers of Damascus should take lessons from the global isolation faced by the Taliban.

Most recently, the interim government has also banned women and girls from studying in medical institutes.
