Boat Carrying Afghan Nationals Sinks in Greek Waters; Eight Dead

Bayan News – Greek authorities have reported the sinking of a boat carrying Afghan nationals in their territorial waters.

According to published reports, Greek officials stated that eight Afghan nationals lost their lives, while 18 others were rescued following the incident.

The boat carrying Afghan citizens reportedly sank two days ago (December 20) while attempting to evade a Greek Coast Guard patrol vessel.

The reports indicate that the survivors include 12 men, three women, and three children.

Additionally, two Turkish nationals have been arrested as smugglers responsible for transporting these refugees.

Last week, another refugee boat sank in Greek waters, resulting in the deaths of seven refugees.

Notably, after Syrians, Afghan nationals represent a significant portion of those traveling to Greece via illegal routes.
