UN Security Council Calls for Abolition of the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue Law

Bayan News – The United Nations Security Council has recently called for the repeal of the interim government’s Promotion of Virtue law and the removal of educational restrictions against Afghan women and girls.

On Saturday (December 28), the council issued a statement addressing the ongoing restrictions on women and girls in Afghanistan.

In its statement, the UN Security Council urged the interim government to fully respect the rights of women and girls.

The council also pointed to the activities of terrorist groups within Afghanistan, emphasizing that the current regime should not only refrain from sheltering these groups but also combat them decisively.

The UN Security Council added: “Members of the Security Council express concern over the dire economic situation and obstacles to humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and call for the removal of these barriers.”

According to the council, given the humanitarian and economic crises faced by the Afghan people, the country’s frozen assets should be released.

The council further stressed that the cultivation of narcotics in Afghanistan is enabling financial support for terrorist groups that threaten global and regional security, and urgent action must be taken to stop this practice.

Members of the Security Council reiterated the crucial role of the UN in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan and advocated for engaging with the Taliban through the Doha process.
