Increase in tensions between Kabul and Islamabad; Taliban; “Audacious” attacks will have serious consequences
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the interim government in Kabul, criticized the Pakistani army’s airstrikes in areas of Jost and Paktika in eastern Afghanistan.
Mujahid stated in a letter addressed to the new government of Pakistan today, Tuesday, March 18th, that carrying out such attacks violates the sovereignty of Afghanistan and will have serious consequences that Islamabad will not be able to control.
The spokesperson for the interim government in Kabul urged the new government of Pakistan not to strain the relations between the two countries due to the “audacious” actions of some military generals.
He also emphasized that the government of Pakistan should not burden Kabul with its own shortcomings.
Border confrontation
At the same time, there has been a confrontation between the border guards of the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan around 7:00 a.m. today.
According to local reports in Paktia and Paktika, this border confrontation is said to have taken place in the districts of Bermel in Paktika and Dand Patan in Paktia.
It is said that both sides are using light and heavy weapons, and the confrontation is ongoing.
So far, no casualties resulting from this border incident have been reported.
Officials from the Afghan Taliban have not yet commented on the border confrontation.
The establishment of the new government in Pakistan and the death of several soldiers of the Pakistani army in North Waziristan at the hands of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have intensified tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
Several high-ranking officials of the Pakistani government reiterated in the past day that Afghanistan is the origin of paramilitaries.
According to Pakistan’s special representative for Afghan Affairs, there are currently between five and six thousand Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan fighters deployed in Afghanistan, and their funding is provided by the Indian government through Afghanistan.
However, the interim government in Kabul also reacted to these claims and considered them false and detached from reality.
