Nearly 80% of Afghanistan’s population lacks sufficient access to drinking water.
Bayan News – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) states in a report that 79% of Afghanistan’s population lacks sufficient access to drinking water.
This report by the UNDP was published on Saturday, March 22, and highlights that severe drought conditions, economic instability, and the destructive effects of long-term conflicts have severely disrupted Afghanistan’s water infrastructure.
According to the organization, the water crisis disproportionately affects female-headed households, who face greater obstacles in accessing public water facilities, thereby exacerbating their vulnerability.
The institution has mentioned the impacts of climate change, stating that 67% of families in Afghanistan are affected by problems arising from drought, while another 16% are impacted by floods.
However, climate change has intensified droughts and floods, posing threats to agricultural communities in Afghanistan.
