Bayan News – A research report by the Institute for War and Peace Studies indicates that members of the Taliban have disobeyed their leader’s orders in numerous instances.
The report states that Taliban members have disregarded their leader’s orders regarding various issues such as the prohibition of multiple marriages, the ban on appointing relatives, and extrajudicial killings.
The research report by the Institute for War and Peace Studies, released on Friday (March 29), highlights disagreements between the Taliban leader and their senior officials regarding cultural and social policies.
The most significant disagreement is related to the ban on educating girls, with cabinet members of the Taliban publicly criticizing the leadership decisions in their speeches. Figures such as Mullah Yaqoub, Sirajuddin Haqqani, and Abbas Stanikzai have openly criticized the policies of Hibatullah Akhundzada in their public speeches.
According to a section of the Institute for War Studies report, Taliban officials have defied Hibatullah Akhundzada’s orders by sending their daughters to secret schools for education.
The report quotes Akhundzada issuing multiple orders, including labeling multiple marriages as “unnecessary and extravagant” and prohibiting them, yet “many Taliban commanders have continued with multiple marriages despite Akhundzada’s orders.”
Additionally, Taliban members have extensively continued extrajudicial killings of former Afghan government employees, in violation of the group leader’s promise of general amnesty.
In addition to the aforementioned issues, the report notes that Taliban officials have ignored Hibatullah Akhundzada’s orders regarding the appointment of their relatives in governmental positions, despite the prohibition of nepotism and corruption.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, acknowledges differences but does not consider them as conflicts, rather as a lack of coordination.
Mujahid added to Afghan media that disagreements within the government are normal.
