Taliban has confirmed that they have detained two American citizens
Bayan News – Taliban officials have confirmed that a significant number of foreign citizens, including two Americans, are in detention.
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesperson, stated in an interview with Afghanistan’s national television on Monday (April 1st) that several foreign citizens are being held, among them two American nationals.
The Taliban official stated that the reason for the detention of the American citizens was the violation of Afghan laws. “Those who travel to Afghanistan after obtaining a visa imply that they accept Afghan laws and must abide by them.”
According to the Taliban spokesperson, the current government of Afghanistan has held discussions with American officials, and agreements have been made with the United States.
The detention of American citizens by the Taliban has escalated tensions between Afghanistan and the United States, and according to U.S. officials, the arbitrary detentions and hostage-taking of American citizens have hindered positive interaction between Washington and the Taliban.
One of the American citizens detained by the Taliban is Ryan Corbett, who was arrested in 2022, but the identity of the other American citizen detained in Kabul has not been disclosed, and the Taliban have not provided any information regarding it.
U.S. senators have labeled the Taliban’s action of detaining citizens of their country as a crime.
