12 Prominent Women Political Leaders: We Demand the Presence of Women at the Doha Meeting
Bayan News – As the third Doha meeting is approaching, 12 prominent women political leaders have written a letter demanding the active participation of women in this meeting.
The letter, which was published on Wednesday (June 26th) on the sidelines of the “Global Women Leaders Summit – 2024”, states that the exclusion of women by the global community from the Doha meeting is unjust.
These women leaders have clearly stated that the lack of participation of women in the Doha meeting will marginalize their voice and severely undermine the rights of women.
The letter was signed by Vjosa Osmani, President of Kosovo, Hillary Clinton, former US Secretary of State, Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia, Shaharzad Akbar, former Chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Patricia Espinosa, former Foreign Minister of Mexico, María Fernanda Espinosa, former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dalia Grybauskaitė, former President of Lithuania, Carla Koppell, Vice Dean of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Sanna Marin, former Prime Minister of Finland, Monica McWilliams, former member of the Northern Ireland Legislative Assembly, and Melanne Verveer, Executive Director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security.
According to them, the deprivation of Afghan women from the Doha meeting is in contrast with the Charter of the United Nations, UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and other international conventions.
