Miller: Taliban Must Ensure Terrorist Groups Do Not Use Afghan Soil
Bayan News – Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, has called on the Taliban to ensure that terrorist groups do not use Afghan soil to target other countries.
The U.S. State Department spokesperson said in a press conference on Tuesday (July 16) that the non-use of Afghan soil against other countries is a key factor for Washington in its dealings with the Taliban.
Referring to the Pakistani government’s concerns about the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) using Afghan soil, Miller said, “The people of Pakistan have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremists and terrorists. We share common interests with the people and government of Pakistan in addressing threats to regional security.”
This comes as the Pakistani government has in recent months accused the current Afghan government of cooperating with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has consistently stated that thousands of TTP fighters are organizing terrorist attacks against Pakistan from Afghan soil.
Claims that have been repeatedly denied by the Afghan Taliban.
In the latest case, the TTP leader has declared in a statement that he is not receiving any cooperation from the Afghan Taliban.
