Afghan Academic Women Call the 5,000 Afghanis Salary “Humiliating”
Bayan News – A group of academic women, most of whom are university professors, have called the Taliban’s determination of a monthly salary of 5,000 Afghanis as humiliating.
On Monday (July 29), they added in a letter to the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education that while students need to learn from their expertise and experience, the Taliban is determined to make female staff stay at home.
These academic activists wrote in the letter: “We have studied for at least 20 years, conducted scientific research and studies, but for two years we have been sitting in the corners of our homes, dealing with the worst mental and psychological conditions.”
According to them, in a society where custom takes the place of reason, human needs, and even religion, one cannot expect more than this. “We have been patient, hoping that the Taliban would accept that the children of Afghanistan need us and put an end to the humiliation and insult of us at the gates of the universities, but not only nothing has changed, but the salaries of the academic staff have become equal to the laborers.”
The Taliban leader ordered about two months ago that the monthly salaries of all female employees be equal, and after this decision, it was announced that the monthly salaries of all women would be set at 5,000 Afghanis.
