Three Years of the Fall of the Republic; the US Provides $280 Million in Aid to the People of Afghanistan
Bayan News – The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Wednesday (August 14) that the United States has provided $280 million in aid for the people of Afghanistan.
The organization said in a statement that this assistance will be used to address the reduction in hunger and malnutrition among children in Afghanistan.
The statement quoted Hessawi Wily, the head of the World Food Programme, as saying that this aid can save three million hungry people with food assistance and also treat 900,000 malnourished children and women.
The head of the World Food Programme added: “Extensive humanitarian aid over the past two years has helped push millions of Afghan citizens to the brink of famine, and we are now seeing an improvement in food security.”
Wily also stated that this budget will help the organization maintain the United Nations’ humanitarian air services for Afghanistan.
The head of the organization stressed: “However, these gains are fragile and if aid for the most vulnerable communities does not continue, it could be reversed.”
The United States has been the largest donor in Afghanistan over the past three years since the Taliban came to power.
This aid comes at a time when the United Nations has recently expressed deep concern over the severe reduction in humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.
Furthermore, a group of international aid organizations stated in a joint statement yesterday that the people of Afghanistan are paying the price for the world’s indifference and are trapped in cycles of poverty, displacement, and despair.
