Bayan News – Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, states that there will be no fundamental changes to the asylum law, but more migrants will be expelled to Afghanistan and Syria.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (August 27) in an interview with the German network ZDF.
The Chancellor noted that he will strengthen border control, but the German government does not intend to reject Afghan and Syrian asylum seekers at the border without assessing their applications.
Scholz added, “It is clear that we will not violate the international agreements that Germany has signed. We will adhere to the laws of the European Union and our constitution.”
He continued, “We will ensure that the possibility of returning to Afghanistan is provided, and we also want to do the same for Syria. Other serious criminals do not have the right to stay here.”
This comes after a deadly attack four days ago, which has led the German government to face severe criticism from opposition parties and public pressure.
In this attack, carried out by a 26-year-old Syrian with a knife at a festival in the city of Solingen in western Germany, three people were killed and eight others were injured.
